Man Remanded Over Forged Presidential Appointment Letter in Shs20m Scam
Buganda Road Court has remanded Arinda Nicholas over allegations of forging a presidential appointment letter and extorting more than Shs20 million from a victim seeking a top government job.

The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded Nicholas Arinda on charges of forgery, uttering a false document, and obtaining money by false pretence in connection with a fraudulent scheme involving a fake presidential appointment letter.

Arinda was on Wednesday arraigned in court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

He has been remanded until March 9, 2026.

According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit spokesperson, Mariam Natasha, the accused, together with another suspect who is still at large, allegedly forged an appointment letter dated December 4, 2024 (Ref: PO/23), purporting to appoint Mr Alfred Nagwomu as Managing Director of the Uganda Railways Corporation.

She further explained that the forged letter was purportedly signed by the President, which was not true.

Investigations also indicate that the accused extorted more than Shs20 million from Mr Nagwomu under the pretext that the money would be used to secure the appointment.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to apprehend the other suspect who remains on the run.
